At last Spring has come – followed by the Sun and Summer…

Well, whilst surfing the blogging wave, I somehow managed to fall off my board, and hit the real world ocean with a hard and painful belly flop. I presumed I could at least write a blog post a month, but due to Internet problems at my place and a lot of happenings from March 1st until this day; a day of relaxation and no exam stress, I have not managed to post new blog. If there are any readers of my blog out there, I am deeply sorry. But I am back, and for good this time.

What have I done since March 1st then? I have more or less enjoyed the winter skiing in the mountains with my friends, spent a lot of time with friends besides skiing, and with Spring, comes entertaining seagulls on the neighbours’ roof and the construction workers starts working across the street. Yikes! No more delightful mornings ahead, alas less sleep, but luckily the exciting exams have finally come to an end! Just keep smiling The summer holidays have arrived! And so has the departure of a friend – Torunn moved on May 16th back to Gausdal, before starting to bike her way through Europe for three looong months, and when she finally is returning on Norwegian grounds, she is moving to Porsgrunn. Many visits ahead! Due to her her departure, we arranged a little barbeque and had a joyful day in the gardens.

With Spring, the numbers of days to Summer shortens, and the Sun shows her happy face over the roof-tops in the big city! Yes, Spring has finally arrived, and the grey curtain of Fall and Winter has disappeared. The world is colored in the colors of the rainbow – vivid green is the grass and the leaves on the trees, and the world is filled with flowers in golden yellow, blazing red, heavenly blue, snowy white, dashing pink, thrilling orange and lusty lilac. It feels like a great burden has been lifted from my shoulders, and I have the possibility to just sit back, relax and enjoy everything.

Seagulls mating Today the world’s ceiling was coloured in Caribbean blue, and the Sun shone and shared her gentle warmth with Mother Earth. Summer has arrived, and the days passing by seem more delightful and pleasant than the day before.. only if you do not take the seagulls’ mating season on the roof-top nextdoor or the disrespectful construction workers across the street into consideration. No good night’s sleep in for me until I am back in the village, or at least not until I leave my appartment for the Summer!

On Saturday, I have never been further away from home than I will at this day. It is at this point that I leave the safety of my home behind and embark on the Path of Trials. It sounds more challenging than it is, after all – I am just travelling/exploring a more distant southeast corner of the world than I have done before! Croatia here I come!

And until next time, keep tracks of the memories, as the Book of Days…

To the village..

Well, I am not the typical city-girl you might have considered me to be. Born and raised on a farm in the south west070711-eg-og-torstein-pa-tur-i-marka-037 of Norway. Going back to my roots, after spending most of my time in the city, or at least, that is what you would call Kristiansand after comparing it to my hometown… which is more or less a village in the eyes of those from the big cities, such as Oslo. The occasion, my sister’s 17th birthday. Cake and rustic fare; pinnekjøtt – which Clue would explain like rack of lamb ribs (Norwegian speciality, especially at Christmas). My sister’s favourite, and one of my mother’s specialities. I would not suffer from hunger this weekend, that is for sure. My mother always makes sure that there are lots of food to eat when I am at home. For one weekend, it extraordinary to point out, that for once, the entire family was at home. Both me and my two-years younger sister are both students, and rarely to be found in the “village” at home.

View from our house A weekend of relaxation. Coming home once a while, is quite a pleasure, I can assure you. No bus passes your bedroom window – more or less nothing that will ruin a goooood night’s sleep. Quite, clean air and my closest neighbour – mother earth. And I enjoy every second of the time spent at home. However, now I look forward to spring and summer. Winter and fall are cold and grey, whilest spring and summer bringst warmth, sun and vivid flora. dsc000061 They paint nature in colours of the rainbow, and the world loses its grey curtain, and shows the life that winter and fall had hidden. I look forward seeing the farm in blossom. No rain, just the sun who brightens the world. Butterflies and bees flying from flower to flower, birds singing.

Oh well, the spring and summer is full of their extraordinary music, but for now, I would have to settle with the silence of the winter. At least that means no seagulls!

And sending you off dreaming of the summer; until next time, hopefully the sky high above is Caribbean blue.

Leaving the city of lights..

After a long, successful weekend in Oslo, it is yet time to point my way back south again. Expectations where fulfilled, and my wallet where obviously on a quite demanding diet – and dropped several pounds during the weekend. At least I managed not to set my bank card on fire.

I don’t care if Monday’s blueimg_0038
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday, I’m in love’
Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate…

Monday was indeed blue and sunny, and we had grey and boring Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday, I did not care about you. But at Friday I arrived, and fell in love. Oslo is an amazing city, with contrasts at every corner – we can not see the world in black and white, rather in different nuances of grey, and some of them are frightening and unbelievable. Coming off the bus, and more or less run down a dealer at the first corner you round, or crossing the street, to find the addict sitting in a cardboard box, so high that he does not sense the world as it passes by, it is no a pretty sight at all. However, Oslo, you both hate and love, and Friday, I fell in love with Oslo as it is. (photo up and to the right by IMJ)

Every city has its own identity, and though it might seem bad, what we see, I believe that every city has its own demon which haunt it on a day-to-day basis.
But it is the lights of the city which show us what else the city has to offer. The experience of walking around with tall buildings on both sides, shopping opportunities (here my money grew legs, and started wandering off, yikes!), the jumble market under the bridge at Grønland, the sunday market at Blå, the dog café at Grünerløkka, a hidden photo studio not far from Akershus festning (photoshooting with my best friend is fun, and I am still smiling) and Ingrid’s first apartment hidden in the middle of Grønland. Sunday did not come too late, if anything, it came too soon. Meeting my friends for vegetarian tacos on a Sunday evening, yes, it was great seeing Lotte for the first time in months (!), or seeing Karoline Monday afternoon at Café Sør downtown. And time flies by, and before you notice, the long weekend I was to spend in the city of lights, had passed by. Now, as you probably guessed I am on my way back to good old Kristiansand, probably it has its own lights still shining, just as I left them to.
Memories will last a life time, and if I did not go, I would not have myself not falling in love with Oslo on a Friday night. I can not wait to go back!

Until then, may the evening star shine down upon you..

The lights of the city closing in..

Well, here I am, once again. Today I am on my way to the big city, which would make my second home town, Kristiansand, look like a village. Yes, I am travelling by bus to the norwegian metro; Oslo. May I add once more, BY BUS! At the moment I’ve been sitting on the bus for about 4 full hours. Yikes, and yet at least another hour to go. Luckily, the bus has electric outlet and free internet for its travellers. So I will survive..

Why would I then choose to travel by bus all the way to Oslo? Firstly, it’s the cheapest way to travel, secondly it provides me with internet and lastly, it drops me off just some quarters from were my friend lives. Yes, that is the reason why I am on the road. My best friend Ingrid, an upcoming photographer, lives in the big city, and due to my promise made a couple weeks ago to come visit her, I’m on my way to the big city. This is going to be smashing. My expectations only have one limit, and it’s the sky – the skyline of Oslo, if there is any..

Plans are made (?), uh, well.. I have clue what the two of us are going to do. At least tomorrow’s shopping, that’s for sure. Sales all over the city.. as the rest of the country. And to eat vegetarian food, I shall not bring up any discussion, but if you are interested you could read here (blog post is written in norwegian though);

Spillopper i Systematikken “Propaganda” : http://ingridmj.wordpress.com/2008/01/30/propaganda/

You see, my friend is a vegetarian, and because I respect her and her choices, I guess I will be eating vegetarian as well.

Now, at last, the lights of the city are closing in. I will give you an update from my crazy weekend by Monday.

Until then, have a last time by moonlight..

Hello world!

Well, finally I have chosen to try surf on the blogging wave. How well this goes, is up to you from the outside world to decide.

For my first blog post, wow, what could I possibly discuss or even write. Temporarly I am caught in the twilight zone between the television and my computer world, just another ordinary Wednesday evening, you might say. One of the few days I’m actually taking my time to watch some TV. However, the time I’m now spending with my feet on the table, watching TV and having the laptop  placed on my lap, I should probably have read some of my syllabus or pack for my weekend trip to Oslo. Well, about time getting practical. I’ll give you a proper blog from my twilight zone in a couple of days.

Until then, look at the stars and midnight blue!
